Grape Expectations: Upcoming Wine Dinners at The Mira Hong Hong

Showcasing 3 extraordinary vintages of Chateauneuf du Pape, also known as the papal wine, produced in a long-lived style with the utmost respect of the violent terroir, and 2 Cotes du Rhone wines, this wine dinner is a fantastic opportunity to get a taste of Rhone paired with ingredient-driven cuisine by Chef Oliver Li.

The blending is privileged with a unique know-how, passed down from generation to generation taking the best from each plot, letting each grape variety express their very nature in order to make the best wine. Comprising of the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, it is home to some of the oldest Shiraz vineyards in the world, acclaimed Rieslings and iconic wine brands.

In this scenic setting, back in 19th century the vineyard was first planted on the banks of the North Para River in Nuriootpa in by early German settlers, the Scholz family. The site was taken over by the Ashmead family who moved to Australia from Saudi Arabia to raise their family.

After years of no interest, the real estate agent eventually offered the Ashmeads the 72 acre vineyard as a bonus, as part of the sale of the homestead.

Three years later, after restoring the vineyard, Elderton Wines was born and since then it has been gradually making its name in the Australian winemaking as — among other accolades — one of the Wines of the Year by Decanter Featuring 2 Grand Cru wines and 3 Premier Cru vintages among 6 wines to be tasted from Domaine Lous Max, this wine dinner is for true connoisseurs of Burgundy wines.

The winery follows a set of strict rules and farming practices, such as ploughing by horses, integrated pest management, green harvest when necessary, use of natural fertilizers and indigenous yeasts with no chemical additives in the wines. The product of nature, even in the cellars the winery uses gravity instead of pumping and no unnecessary inputs.
